The Middle East Studies Association (MESA) is hiring a social media intern for the 2018-9 academic year (September 1, 2018-August 31, 2019). MESA is a non-profit association that fosters the study of the Middle East, promotes high standards of scholarship and teaching, and encourages public understanding of the region and its peoples through programs, publications and services that enhance education, further intellectual exchange, recognize professional distinction, and defend academic freedom in accordance with its status as a 501(c)(3) scientific, educational, literary, and charitable organization.
The social media intern will be tasked with managing and posting relevant materials via MESA’s social media account, including Facebook and Twitter. Postings will be related to MESA’s annual conference, fellowships and jobs, announcements from the Board, Secretariat, and Committee for Academic Freedom, publications (e.g. IJMES, and RoMES), and other materials directly related to the association's activities. The intern is expected to engage in social media activities for approximately 5 hours a week and also attend the annual conference and receive a compensation of $2000 for the year as well as compensation for attending the annual meeting. Interns are able to work from any location as long as they have dependable access to the internet.
Applicants are expected to be graduate students with a strong background in Middle East studies and/or related fields and working knowledge and experience in social media platforms. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and three names of reference including their emails to secretariat@mesana.org. Applications will be reviewed beginning on August 15.
