In the following interview conducted on 18 October 2018, NPR-affiliate WNYC Studios interviewed Abdullah al-Arian as part of their On the Media show. The segment focused on al-Arian's 2017 Jadaliyya article “Seventy Years of the New York Times Describing Saudi Royals as Reformers.” In the wake of the current global outcry against the disappearance and murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, On the Media host Brooke Gladstone explores some of the factors that help explain why mainstream US media has historically covered the Saudi regime’s policies, and what the potential for a fundamental shift in that mode of coverage.
