Egyptian singer, producer and actress Nadah El Shazly performed parts of her new album in the making at 100Copies Music Space in March. Shazly has a formal education in community psychology and theater, but she has been developing her musical talent since she was a child. She used to sing in her school choir, then as a teenager got more interested in punk rock, jazz, blues and classical Arabic music which she studied at Beit al-Oud in Cairo, until she more recently developed her own style that builds on all these genres with a lot of improvisation and electronic beats. Shazly says that her music is inspired by her immediate sonic environment.
In addition to working on her first solo album, she has collaborated with several musicians as Shorbet Rosas with choreographer/dancer Mohammed Shafik and Lebanese hip-hop artist Mazen El Sayed (El Rass). Shazly has also composed the score of two films: “Portrait Zaty” and “Hazy al-Khayal”, and acted in several plays such as “Menenn Ageeb Nas”, directed by Mahmoud El Lozy, and “Mazraet el Hemeer” directed by Shafik.
