Jadaliyya is delighted to announce the launching of its newest page: Occupation, Intervention, Law or O.I.L. (click here to access the page directly). This page is co-edited by Lisa Hajjar, Sherene Seikaly, Mouin Rabbani, and myself. The purpose of O.I.L. is to explore the relationship between, and the debates within, the fields of armed conflict, politics, and international law. These debates include developments in international law, the implications of intervention, the legitimacy, or lack thereof, of resistance, the political economy of conflict, war profiteering, the humanitarian dimension of war and peace, and movements and related forces.
Here are our inaugural posts:
Rashid Kahlidi on Human Dignity in Jerusalem
Lisa Hajjar on The Legal Campaign Against American Torture
Noura Erakat on Emergency Law, the Arab Spring, and the Struggle Against "Human Rights"
We are interested in pieces that explore these topics critically and are eager to feature debates within the field. We will be publishing contributions on an ongoing basis. Please send your contributions to OIL@Jadaliyya.com.
