This talk methodically addresses the roots of the Syrian uprising by examining available approaches and offering a research framework. Haddad distinguishes between longue durée factors (1963 and on) and relatively proximate factors (since 2010), while separating between these foregoing factors, the actual triggers that ignited social mobilization, and the post-initial phase of the uprising. He addresses the impact of such roots on the actual dynamics of the uprisings that took on regional and internationals dimensions. (The Talk is delivered in English)
